International Women's Day - Supporting Job Seeking women

Women Supporting Women

To celebrate International Women’s Week 2022 we're thrilled to be partnering again with employment support charity Smart Works Reading with a special ‘buy one, donate one’ promotion.

This week (until the 17th of March) when you buy Scream Pretty jewelry using the code IWD10 we'll donate a brand new piece of jewelry to Smart Works Reading clients (and you'll  get a handy 10% discount on your purchase ;)).

Scream Pretty Jewelry

Smart Works Reading supports women from the Thames Valley into work by providing free workwear, career and interview coaching. Every client with a confirmed interview receives a high-quality, specially selected outfit that is hers to keep, so that she feels smart and confident meeting prospective employers. Over the past year, 70% of the charity's clients have gone on and got the job. Smart Works rely on donations of high quality workwear from retailers and individual supporters.

Scream Pretty and our sister brand Lily Charmed have supported the charity for a few years – the finishing touch of a piece of jewelry gives their clients that little extra confidence boost so that they look and feel the part ahead of their interview.
When you select your Scream Pretty jewelry  you will know that another woman will be wearing new jewelry  at a transformative moment in her life.

The Smart Works network of regional centres transform the lives of unemployed people who identify as women. ⠀

Pre-pandemic, the UK’s transgender unemployment rate was estimated to be 15%, three times the rate for the population as a whole. ⠀

Thanks to Smart Works Reading, Christine from Berkshire was able to get the support she needed at an important crossroads in her life.⠀

Christine is a trans woman and at the start of her gender reassignment journey. Sadly, she had experienced some verbal abuse from strangers and was apprehensive about visiting Smart Works Reading. However, SWR volunteer dressers quickly put her at ease and, with their help, Christine chose a classic  skirt suit to wear to her interview. ⠀

Client of Smart Works Reading

After her coaching session, Christine told Smart Works Reading that she felt much more confident than usual that she would succeed in finding work. In fact, Christine was not offered the role at her interview with a retailer, but she persevered and soon took up two new jobs, at a care home and a supermarket.⠀

Christine was unable to attend her second (capsule wardrobe) dressing in person, so she did the session online using a package of work clothes directly to her home in time for her starting her new jobs.⠀

Christine said of her Smart Works Reading experience: 'Best charity ever. I went to Smart in Reading and was really nervous as I am a transgender woman, but the lovely ladies helped me pick a gorgeous skirt suit, bag, and heels for my  interviews. I am very grateful, (you) are angels.”⠀

She got the Job!

78% of clients of Smart Works Reading’s are currently getting the job. With your
support, they can help more women in need into work.
Use code IWD10 this week at Scream Pretty and we will donate a piece of jewelry  to Smart Works Reading on your behalf. You'll get a 10% discount on your purchase too.

If you would like to donate directly to Smart Works Reading you can do so through the buttons on their Instagram and Facebook.
